I knew Don best from running Eagles track. He was amazing, especially in the hurdles. I could never bend my legs enough for hurdles, but Don made it look effortless. It wasn't. He worked hard to develop his talent, yet was not overly prideful; just a regular guy. I remember him teaching me to do a rhythmic leg slap while goofing off in the locker room. I don't guess I ever had a deep conversation with Don until our last reunion. By that time, he was already in poor health, and I am amazed (but not surprised) that he fought it so well for so long. I had, and still have, a lot of respect for Don.
