I didn’t know Terry very well. He attended Franklin JH, and I went to Lincoln. Once we got to Abilene High, Terry participated in football and track, and I played basketball and baseball. Although our paths didn’t cross very often, Terry was a good friend and was well liked by his classmates and teammates. RIP, Terry.
I knew Terry only through running track with him. He was good at the hurdles, though unfortunately he had to compete with the great Don Brown. But I remember him more for running the second leg of the sprint relay. That relay team had one of the top ratings and times in the state. Terry was particularly suited to the second spot on the relay, as it was mostly on the straight away. That played to those long legs of his and one of the longest strides I've ever seen as he ate up the track. He was one of the most shy and quiet guys I've ever met. He was hard to know, but not hard to respect.
