I remember Lorenzo from the time we both played Little League baseball at Eastern LL In Will Hair Park off of Ambler. That’s when I learned his nickname, ”Nooky” Bell. He played for the Hugh Bowie Jewelers which became the McWood Oilers. We were scared to bat against “Nookie” when he pitched. He seemed bigger and stronger and for whatever reason, we were simply “scared” of Lorenzo!  Once we got to know him, the fear went away, and he was just another ball player. At Franklin Junior High, Lorenzo was one of their best athletes in all sports. Although we used to defeat them fairly often (I played football and basketball at Lincoln JH), we always knew that Lorenzo would be a “force” to be reckoned with on the football field and the basketball courts!  RIP, Lorenzo! Tell our good buddy, Michael Paul Brooks “hello” when you see him in heaven!

I first met Lorenzo in 6th grade at the city track meet. He was intimidating at that age, having matured early with defined muscles and a mustache. He strutted in front of the constestants as we lined up for the 100 yard dash, questioning: "Which one of you suckers is going to come in second place?" Michael Brooks and he left us all in their dust. I got to know him a little better playing football at Lincoln, then track at Abilene High. He was always in good spirits and ran hard.
