Bill (or Billy as I knew him) and I grew up together since - well, birth. We lived in houses side-by-side our whole growing up years. Billy was my friend, partner in crime (kid's stuff) and an all-around nice guy. He was more like a brother to me. As we got older we drifted apart, but he stayed in touch with my Mom and Dad. I was so very sad to hear of his passing.
