I met Tamara in the 9th grade at Mann. We were in Journalism together and had a blast. I will never forget Tamara's special smile and gentle manner--so I was quite surprised at one of our first reunions when she told me that she managed a rock band!
Tam told me about her bout with cancer when I found her in Austin in the spring of 1996. I dropped-in on her twice before she passed away, too weak to talk on the phone and beset by the uncertainties of terminal illness. She was brilliant and good-natured to the end.
Tam was one of the sweetest people I knew in high school. She kept me laughing, smiling, and thinking every day. She made class fun, especially PE where she was a terrific badminton partner. The last time I saw her was in 1994 when I was a reader of TAAS test stories by 4th graders. When I walked into the enormous room filled with people - there she was! We spent fun weeks together on that job, reminiscing at lunch time about old times and catching up. I was so sorry to learn of her passing. She truly understood the value of friendship.
